QLD tour logoThe state tour wrapped up last weekend with State Finals at beautiful Rainbow bay. The surf was up, the weather was superb, and the surf club balcony was packed as usual. As for the volleyball, lets just say that I’d rather not talk about it. We certainly didn’t manage to continue our dominance of the tour.

Congrats to BT and Sean Howard for winning the mens, and Carla and Kaylah (happy 21st Kaylah!) for taking out the womens draw. Check out VQ for the placings if you’re interested, and also drop by Janet Murray’s flickr site for heaps of great shots from the games. Oh and a big shout out to Gauly and Nick for winning some games :)

Finally our flights are booked for Thailand and the World Tour

bahrainFivbPressConferenceA cryptically positive press release on the FIVB website makes it sound like the FIVB open event in Bahrain in May is all ready to go and looks great, but might not proceed…confused yet? I am, and we’re confirming our tickets this week. Check out the full calendar at FIVB

Despite the uncertainty in Bahrain we are making final preparations for both trips to Thailand in April and the World tour from May – Jul. Exciting but busy times.

qvbt logoIn the scorching heat at Bracken Ridge yesterday The Duck and I were happy to be winners again on the Queensland Beach Volleyball circuit. The tournament had a bit of an international flavour with Canadians Annie Martin and Dana Cooke taking out the womens side of the draw.

Annie MartinFor us we started a bit shaky with a quarter final loss to Elliot Weston and Pat Gulline. Fortunately we had a chance to take revenge in the final after beating the Carey brothers in the semi. It was a solid straight sets finish to the tournament, which was very satisfying after a week of hard training. In the wash up, Duck is feeling pretty sore today, and I’m certainly looking forward to a day off training tomorrow.

Congrats go out to Gauly and Stefan for winning a game. Go boys!

We’re going to Thailand! Looks like we got an invite to two international tournaments over Easter, so we’ll be on the road sooner than expected.

World Uni Champs Thailand MatesWe play one event at Songkla, which is the same beach as I played at last time I was in Thailand for World University Championships in 2004. I have great memories of that tournament, my first taste of international beach volleyball and I had a great time playing with the Sean Thomas (Pictured second from left, with three Americans and Seba from Austria in orange, I’m on the right).

The world uni champs were held in June 2004, and it was 40°C in the shade with humidity you could nearly see. I’m looking forward to some of the same heat – time to start that fitness prep!

phew, it’s getting close. Flights and itineraries are being confirmed, splan are being put in place, and preparation on the sand and in the gym has begun.

At the moment it goes: China, Bahrain, Italy, Croatia, Portugal, Denmark, Czech Rep., Canada. The confirmed ones are bold…we’re still hanging out to get our nomination for Denmark approved, and hopefully one more tournament in Italy in late May. More details soon

hi there

the purpose of this site is really to get something up and running, piece by piece. i doubt that this is very digestible at the moment but hopefully it will blossom into a thing of function and beauty.
